We pledge allegiance to the flag, of the United States of America,
And to the Republic for which it stands,
One nation,
Under God,
Indivisible
With liberty and justice for all.
Is freedom a right or a privilege? And does it even exist? The United States of America, with all it's guns and fast food chains and materialistic goods and bald eagles-- the definition of freedom to its citizens-- can't provide its citizens the freedom to not be discriminated against. The freedom to be who you are. The freedom to not be shot and killed unarmed by those who are supposed to protect you. This is the reality we are living in. A country where gender, religion, race, sexuality, and social class dictates the rest of your life as well as what freedoms you can and can't have. A plant can get you 15 years in jail but blatant murder charges can be avoided if you're white, male, and rich enough. This is a society where justice is only given to those deemed worthy of it. This is a society where if you look different, act different, or believe differently you are ridiculed, mocked, and denied the very rights and freedoms this country was founded on. It's almost as though we, as a country, never moved on from the Salem witch trails. We still shun those who aren't "pure", those who don't follow the discriminatory status quo we've created in the name of God and tradition. Accusations are thrown around like a football in a backyard, except the football can crush anyone who doesn't have thousands upon thousands of dollars. It only crushes and devastates those who are already behind in society, while those with political or economic power roam free, unafraid of anything that might be thrown there way.
