Student Achieves the Highest Honor Ever; Then Realizes Nobody
in the Real World Cares

On Thursday, March 21st, a high school near Troy, Michigan has achieved the highest honor on the
planet. Named the valedictorian for her outstanding GPA of a 2.37, Jessica Johnson spent her high school
career taking advanced classes and excelling in them.  She was also involved in many extracurriculars,
such as lacrosse, swim, and soccer. Her senior year, she participated in the foundation of a charity that
supplies uniforms to high income areas of the city. Because of her high standing achievements, she has
been accepted into the top schools around her hometown. She has decided to further pursue her education
at a cheap online school, so she can continue to work as a babysitter for the parents in her neighborhood.
However, her award speech was scheduled the following day, to be in the auditorium during 3rd hour,
which was everyone’s free study hall period. The school board was also offering food and drinks to those
who came.  Despite that, no one went to the speech. Sources suspect that this was because no one in the
school cares, and that most students were uninformed of this crucial event going on. Our news team talked
to the principal of the school, Mr. Berk, and this is what he had to say on the matter:

“The situation at hand is tragic, to say the least. So many people would have murdered to be in [Jessica’s]
place. This is by far the most important moment in her entire life ever. It’s a shame this life changing
event, this event that nothing will ever compare to ever, won’t be recognized.”

  1. I think your post is thought-provoking and it reminds us that often times once people become adults, they don't pay attention to other people's academic achievements anymore, even though that's all that seemed to matter to a lot of students when they were still in school. To what extent do you believe it is important to achieve academic excellence?

  2. I thought your post was a good subject to speak about considering that you expose the fact getting the highest level of education isn't what everyone truly cares about. I thought that your post had a good meaning behind it but also maybe expand more on the topic.

The Different Englishes

We, as living things, use many different things to communicate: body language, gestures, facial expressions, etc. But since we are humans, we can communicate in more complex ways than just that; we have spoken language, specifically English. Our language is so complex that it's not uniform/cut and dry for everyone. There are certain words that we, as a society, have determined are only to be used in formal or informal settings, as well as the syntax. For example, in a formal essay or presentation, jargon used on whatever topic is being presented is utilized in order for the speaker to be given some credibility by the audience. The speaker using words that only someone within a certain interest group would thoroughly comprehend demonstrates that the speaker themselves have been in that situation, and they know the language the interest group uses. However, this jargon is not limited to only formal use. Jargon such as slang and slang phrases are frequently used in informal settings, ...

A 21st Century Take on Huckleberry Finn

Howdy there, the name's Luke Johnson. I grew on up deep down south, middle of no where Alabama. I could tell you where, but I reckon you ain't never heard of it. It's a small town where everyone knows everyone. One of those type a towns. But I'm tired of it. I'm sick and tired of getting in up in this little white town everyday. Where we farm and go to church and spend time complainin' about how those darned liberals are trying to take away our guns. So me and my good dog, Spot, have come up with a foolproof plan to get us out of here, and up to New York where we can make somethin' of ourselves. The red X is where we are, and the green X is where we're gonna be. As I'm writing this, me and Spot are sneaking out of the barn and hopping into my Pop's old trunk-- he's been tryin to sell this ol' thing anyways. Then I hot wire the car (I learned how to do it when I was watching Joe Dirt with my old man) and sped off down the rigidity dir...
